Amara – Decisions

She was pacing, biting down on her thumbnail as she did. Negotiations between Guniel and Stubia were not going as she’d hoped. Never mind the stalemate between Stokya and Stubia, she wasn’t sure anything would improve there. Amara wanted nothing more than to tell Aramazt to go to hell, but she didn’t think that would be very Queenly, let alone help anything.

Thankfully Stokya had agreed to a new trade deal, which she knew would also offer strength and stability between their two kingdoms. She hoped that with Guniel and Stokya allied to Cacedera, they would be able to present a strong front in the event that Aramazt turned Stubia to war with any of them.

There was a knock on her door, then it opened. “Renault Baillarige, Your Majesty.” Her doorman announced. In walked one of her advisors, one she’d kept over from her father’s court. He was tall, white haired, with dark green eyes and an air of strength and wisdom in the way he handled himself. He walked with his back straight, even though he did need a cane to assist him.

“Renault.” She smiled. “Are you well?” She liked the old man, he’d always been kind to her, had even helped tutor her as a child.

“These old bones haven’t failed me yet.” He smiled back at her, walking further into her rooms. She motioned for him to sit, then took her own seat across from him. “My Queen, are you well?” He tilted his head to the side, looking her over.

“As well as I can be.” She sighed. “I’m doing my best to keep my temper in check during these meetings, and I’ve come away with headaches more often than not. But... I am well, as I said.”

“I believe we need to discuss what we are to do about your brother.” He spoke frankly, which she was thankful for. Some of her advisors, Augustus in particular, was more apt to keep his opinions to himself and simply agree with whatever she said.

“He’s secure.” She said, sighing slightly.

“True. But we cannot keep him in the dungeon in perpetuity.” He nodded, resting his hand on his cane in front of him. “True, we could have a trial for him, but the evidence is ... well, there’s no way for him to deny what he has done.” He paused for a moment, letting his words sink into her. “The punishment for his crimes... is death.” She nodded at that, she was all too aware of that fact. “The only question is...do we offer him a choice in the manner of his death, or do we do a public execution?”

Amara thought for a moment. Of course this had been on her mind since the day they took back her crown. She had no love for her brother, as he’d been born with hate in his heart and had always been cruel, vulgar toward her. Still, he was her brother. He was a member of the royal family. The only other member of her family.
